About Sarcochilus.co.uk

Vince and Dawn Ransome have been growing Sarcochilus orchids since 2017, inspired by a 2016 meeting with Scott Barrie of Barrita Orchids, Australia. His expertise in breeding vibrant, cool-growing orchids captivated us, leading to the creation of our extensive collection.

Our Story

Our journey began with flasks from Barrita Orchids, imported via Akerne Orchids in Belgium. We’ve nurtured crosses like Kulnura Dragonfly, Kulnura Mozart, and Kulnura Kaleidoscope, each offering stunning flower spikes .

Our goal? To grow these “skeleton-faced” orchids to their fullest potential and share their beauty with fellow enthusiasts.

Our Growing Setup

Our south-facing greenhouse is designed for Sarcochilus success:

• Climate Control: 75% shade cloth, a Faran humidifier (85% humidity), and a Calor gas heater maintain ideal conditions.

• Lighting: 36W LED batten tubes provide 13 hours of daily light from October to April for vibrant blooms.

• Watering & Feeding: We use recycled fish tank water mixed with Akerne rain mix fertilizer , watering every 1–4 days based on the season.

• Potting: Plants grow in clear orchid pots and plastic baskets with medium bark for optimal drainage and root health.
